Since its founding in 1865, Zenith has been committed to superb watchmaking technology for 146 years, especially El Primero’s self-made movements with a speed of up to 36,000 revolutions. It has surpassed all watches for more than 40 years. The factory is out of reach.
In 1962, ZENITH, a Swiss-made movement watchmaking factory, decided to develop an automatic movement with chronological performance in order to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the factory. After five years of painting, the El Primero (Spanish ‘first’) movement frequency of 36,000 revolutions per hour was finally born in 1969 when humans landed on the moon. The legendary El Primero movement requires 5,700 processes and 18 different metals to make one. Although all watchmakers have been able to make automatic movements for traditional mechanical watches, no one has the ability to create such a powerful system for chronograph movements. In the history of watchmaking, this is recognized as ‘the first self-winding movement that revolves around a central ball bearing mechanism by a pendulum.’ To this day, such excellent movement manufacturing technology is still in the leading position in the industry and is used in Various Zenith watches.
